KARUIZAWA KUSATSU ROUTE

The Asama / Shirane / Shiga Sawayaka highway is a mountain road with a total length of about 200 km, starting from Karuizawa, passing through the Asama Kogen and Kusatsu Onsen to the Shiga Kogen. Kumoba Pond has a 1km approach to the perimeter of the pond, which makes it a very calm atmosphere in the city of Karuizawa. The former Karuizawa Ginza Shopping Street was originally a post town on the old Nakasendo, and is now an exotic city with a gorgeous Western culture. The former Mikasa Hotel is a Western-style wooden hotel that was designated as an important cultural heritage of the country built in the Meiji era. Shiraito water Falls is located on the border of Nagano and Gunma prefectures. Many tourists visit throughout the year, as you can feel minus -ions in the summer and see the icicles in the winter. Onioshidashien is a tourist spot where the lava that flows out during the big eruption of Mount Asama in 1783 spreads across the entire area. Nishinohara Park has roads that are well-maintained, and there are courses where you can take a stroll. Yubatake is a symbol of Kusatsu Onsen, one of Japan's three most famous hot springs, and 4,000 liters of hot water is spouting every minute. At the hot spring at the goal, you can see and experience Kusatsu's famous "Yumomi". Enjoy a lot of sightseeing at one time while your cycling, from Karuizawa to Kusatsu!

    "Asama / Shirane / Shiga Sawayaka Highway" will be the first scenic highway registered in Kanto among "Japanese landscape highways". Starting from Karuizawa, the highway runs through Asama Kogen and Kusatsu Onsen to the Shiga Kogen, which is a mountain road with a total length of about 200 km. The recommended season for cycling is the early summer fresh green season and the autumn foliage season. Please note that the section from Kusatsu Onsen to Shiga Kogen during a heavy snowfall area is closed in winter, so please be careful when going out.
  • Kumoba Pond

    Even though it is located in the downtown area of Karuizawa, it has a very calm atmosphere. There is a 1km approach to the area around the pond, making it a popular course for casual walks. Also, in the autumn leave season, the contrast between the leaves reflected on the surface of the pond and the clouds are very beautiful, and many tourists visit every year.
  • Old Karuizawa Ginza Shopping Street

    Karuizawa's representative tourist spot is a 5-minute drive from Karuizawa Station. Originally this site was a post town on the old Nakasendo, and today it is a town full of exoticism with a gorgeous western culture. There are also many famous gourmet foods such as Yakidango(grilled rice dumplings) and gelato, so you can enjoy them while walking around.

The Japanese perform everything from design to architecture, and it is a typical building that quickly adopted Western culture at the time. The hotel is not currently open, but you can visit it.
  • Shiraito Falls

    It is a waterfall on the border of Nagano prefecture and Gunma prefecture. The name comes from the fact that the water that falls on a waterfall resembles a silk thread. Many tourists visit throughout the year. They can refresh in nature in summer and see icicles in winter. You can also enjoy the projection mapping during the summer and the illuminations during the winter, so you can enjoy a different experience. The atmosphere and the fresh air is refreshing.
  • Onioshidashi Volcanic Park

    The lava that flowed out during the large eruption of Mount Asama in 1783 is a tourist spot that spreads throughout the area. The entire area is a national park, and there are four walking courses in the park where you can walk while watching nature and enjoy the scenery of the various kinds of flowers. When it is sunny, you can also see the Northern Alps and the Tanigawa Mountain Range, and take pleasure in the magnificent experience of nature. There is also a restaurant in the park, therefore, it is a good idea to have a break here.

    It is an area where hot springs are gushing from everywhere in the western part of Kusatsu Onsen town. There are trails in the park where you can take a walk, and you can enjoy footbaths, making it one of Kusatsu's most popular tourist spots along with the Yubatake, which is the symbol of Kusatsu Onsen.
